Engines, Towing and Drivetrains
Every 2027 Sierra 1500 engine pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The 5.7L and 6.6L are all-new sixth-generation Small Block V8s. GMC rates the 6.6L as the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class. The table shows each engine’s output and maximum towing rating.
| Engine | Horsepower | Torque | Max Towing | Standard On |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2.7L TurboMax | 350 hp | 455 lb-ft | 9,400 lbs | Pro, Elevation |
| 5.7L V8 | 402 hp | 428 lb-ft | 13,500 lbs | AT4, Denali |
| 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel | 305 hp | 495 lb-ft | 12,100 lbs | AT4X |
| 6.6L V8 | 481 hp | 501 lb-ft | 9,400 lbs | Denali Ultimate |
Maximum towing and payload capacity figures are based on properly equipped vehicles and vary by configuration. Do not exceed any weight rating. See your owner’s manual and the vehicle’s door-jamb label for specific capacities.
The 5.7L V8 and the Duramax diesel are also available beyond the trims where they come standard. Every cab style is offered in 2WD or 4WD. Before you hitch up a boat for Lake Bardwell, confirm the rating on the specific truck.
